How to Wear Suits like the Guys from Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street is one of the most talked about movies of the year 2013, not only because it is the fifth collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, but the way it was made. The men's wardrobe of The Wolf of Wall Street is marked by striped jackets and silk ties that also show an evolution, going from geometric prints to silver embroidery.

    

Leonardo DiCaprio proved that there is no one elegant than a stockbroker on Wall Street. Before being caught by the authorities, Jordan leads (Leonardo) a tumultuous lifestyle, marked by excesses, money, and women. Although we cannot endorse his lifestyle, we can certainly appreciate his classic dressing style.  

     

     

Giorgio Armani’s suits marked an era. The 80s and 90s, when Wall Street yuppies triumphed, and always dressed in one of the deconstructed costumes that made the Italian designer popular. This is why he has been chosen to collaborate with “The Wolf of Wall Street”, the notorious work of Martin Scorsese that stars his actor fetish: Leonardo DiCaprio. He gives life to Jordan Belfort, one of the shining stars of the New York Stock Exchange of the early 90s that ended up being revealed as one of the biggest scammers in US history.

      

The Wolf of Wall Street covers a wide and relatively recent period: the 80s and 90s. To perceive the evolution of the leading character and to differentiate various suits are used which resorted to small nuances of colors and the cuts. Jordan Belfort begins with gray and green tones, broad shoulders, wide and cross jackets. As he moves up to work, he dresses impeccably in a tailor-made suit of the diplomatic stripe, very typical in the 90s. At the end of that decade, coinciding with the fall of Jordan, the tones become dark and black.

       

Armani's intention was to reflect the strong character of the protagonist: jackets with pronounced shoulders and large lapels, pleated pants with pleats (to look taller and give him strong legs), and neckties with geometric motifs were used in its beginnings and turned into more conservative prints in the 90s. In short, wearing Armani's clothing recovered the emblematic look of Wall Street yuppie and become a model of success.

     

Armani worked closely with the film's costume designer, Sandy Powell, to imagine the pieces of the feature film. Matthew McConaughey performed a lean, uproarious character and seen dressed in dark chalk-stripe, double-breasted suit with sizable lapels and a striped blue shirt complemented with a red patterned power tie.

    

Donnie Azoff's “STYLISM” is marked by change over time. It starts with faded pants and impossible shirts, pink polos and pastels that could only exist in the 90s.

     

You can also dress like The Wolf of Wall Street without leaving your (small) fortune down the road and without signing up to the "club of the corrupt"

     

Think of a business man's attire: tailor made or designer costume, gold cuff links with an engraving of the wife (or lover), Swiss watch, silk tie, Italian shoes ... in short, thousands of zeros above. If you consider yourself a successful person in business, but this has not yet been reflected in your bank account, bet on affordable fashion. 

    

Why do you need it? Because a good businessman without a suit is nothing. Armani made the Wall Street yuppies costumes and marked the cuts, but that does not mean that he has to spend the $1,600 that can cost him one of the best Italian brands. Your jacket must be in gray or dark blue tones. Avoid at all costs the brown, and the Gucci jackets. 

   

The fine striped jacket is a must-have item in the wardrobe of any self-respecting gentleman. A crossed version, combined with a blue striped shirt and a classic polka dot tie, will bring more seriousness to your outfit. Brands like Indochino, Black label or Knot Standard offer you the possibility to fully customize a suit and receive it at home for about $600 on average. Later you can tell your friends you bought it on your last trip to Milan.

   

Buy a good shirt and if you ever need to take it off, either because the air conditioner is damaged or because you have been using after-dinner gin-tonics, don't let them see that the fabric is semi-transparent or that it accentuates the glue.

Remember one thing: a businessman always goes in the shirt. On the casual sporting day, this can be printed or you can combine it with a sweater peak in bright colors.

    

We have already talked a lot about ties and their protocol and we do not want to repeat ourselves. Like it or not, you're going to have to wear it too close a deal. On the other hand, if you're at the bottom of the social ladder - a trainee or an analyst - do not go back to work with a Hermes tie.

   

The type of footwear we use is a faithful reflection of our personality and as we all love to be judged at first glance, so better wear sleek and elegant shoes. You have hundreds of options, but if you want to try to give them a funny touch you can try Italian shoes, moccasins or bicolor. 

    

        

Exaggerated lines and strong colors marked the time of the 80s until practically 1995. And just as the fashions were changing, so did the costumes in the film. The executives' suits also change throughout the film, showing the perfect image of the Wall Street Yuppie.

   

The era of 'dress to triumph' on Wall Street projected an enormous resolving power. It was a time of great prosperity in the United States, represented in the compliments that carry the actors. Signatures associated with luxury and glamor are used: Gucci loafers, Swiss Tag-Heuer watches, Ray Ban glasses and even the typical Ralph Lauren polo.
