According to chroniclers, Edward I, ‘Longshanks’ King of England requested his heart should be taken at the Holy Land after his reign. However, the King was laid to rest at Westminster Abbey in a marble tomb with plain shade of black and later on after many years it was painted in words Scotorum malleus which means “Hammer of the Scots” and Pactum Serva means “keep troth”. Throughout the 14th and 15th centuries, the Exchequer paid to keep candles burning around the body of the Lord Edward.
