Born in 1852, Dr. John H. Watson is a fictional English physician who is a devoted friend of Sherlock Holmes and associate in a series of detective series. He was wounded during the second Afghan War where he served as an arm surgeon in India and returned to England in impaired health. Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes met in London where they shared rooms at 221B Baker Street. His medical practice Watson establishes does not prevent him from accompanying Holmes on his crime-fighting cases, which he later records and publishes. As written by Conan Doyle, Watson is modest and intelligent, his detecting capabilities are no match for the lighting-swift deductive reasoning of Holmes though he is a patient and sensitive observer.
