In 814, at the time of his death his expanded kingdom included the majority of what is now considered Western and some of Central Europe. As centuries pass over centuries, the name Charlemagne became associated with the unification of European, whether it is through peaceful or war initiatives as the European Union. Just like how Napoleon Bonaparte who had his own dreams of empire declared in 1806: “Je suis Charlemagne” – “I am Charlemagne”.
