The World’s Best Fashion Shows
The fashion industry for men is still relatively small compared to women, but thanks to many big names and some luxury brands that have built many interesting fashion trends for men, the tides are slowly changing. We're probably more familiar with all of the famous women's fashion shows but there are a whole host of incredible men's fashion shows that showcase the latest styles and trends of the season.
The year kicked off with the incredible Men's March that took place across famous cities around the world. You can find the best street style looks from the men's fashion week in Paris, Milan and New York below, and stay tuned for more street style coverage from men’s style around the world.
These shows have left us pretty darn impressed. Take a look below.
Pitti Immagine
It should be mentioned that although it is not a fashion week, Pitti Uomo is a place where fashion develops free of prejudice. Parades and exhibitions showcase men's style from the most experimental outfits to the garments that will definitely be integrated into the popular street style. This event is an immersive exhibition of the most inventive samples of small and large brands. There are more than a thousand fashion houses that meet at this event at Fortezza da Basso. Giant names such as that of Ermenegildo Zegna, for example, make their staple presence.
In addition to innovation, Pitti Uomo is also a window to tradition and great fashion legends. Brook Brothers, for example, selected this glamorous event to celebrate 200 years of bespoke costumes and masculine elegance with a parade of 43 unique looks that paid tribute to their founder, Henry Sands Brooks.
On the other hand, in the framework of Pitti Uomo, Gucci contributed with a space designed by Alessandro Michelle in which exclusive designs, exhibitions and works of art were presented during the show. Gucci Garden, as it has been called, will also include a restaurant led by the Michelin-starred chef, Massimo Botura. The common thread of this fair is the coexistence of many different generations in fashion and style today.
New York Fashion Week
The sixth edition of the New York Fashion Week began with a focus on men's fashion with urban and classic proposals, but also transgressive, far from the norm or styles with political implications for dressing in the next autumn-winter season. Bode opened the day with Emily Adams Bode, the former designer for Ralph Lauren, who dressed with contemporary dandy and with deli/cate fabrics and works of patchwork from quilts.
Suitsupply opted for a classic and elegant man based on tight suits in neutral tones, shirts, sweaters, refined coats and lace-up shoes. The event included the New York Men's Day, which serves as a letter of introduction to a dozen new talents each year.
Among them was David Hart, who went solo to ready to wear in 2013, counting on his resume with brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren. Garnet, violet, blue and mustard yellow colours prevailed in Hart's collection, who dressed his models in cheerful berets with a French air. He did not forget to leave out the fitted American jacket, of course.
Another outstanding collection was Head of State, founded two years ago by Nigerian Taofeek Abijako when he was only 17. With monochrome-dressed models and also orange and khaki PVC elements, the designer referred to his assimilation to American culture.
The urban style was the common denominator of several emerging fashion houses throughout the day. Wood House adapted the urban men's style with jogger pants and camouflage prints, while Bristol did it with sportier looks, coinciding with its collaboration with Adidas.
London Fashion Week
Men's fashion has been the protagonist of London Fashion Week, held in January. London Fashion Week has had the participation of 34 brands that have shown their proposals for the next year. In total, up to five main trends have been detected in each of the fashion shows that will mark men's fashion and two star-styles have come out with strength: ultra violet, the colour of the year according to Pantone, and yellow in different colours.
This is how men may dress in 2019, according to the London catwalk:
Oversize Garments
Sweaters, endless raincoats and loose-fitting coats will be a staple in winter 2019. Several companies have opted for these types of garments, which are very comfortable to wear mixed with other trends such as stripes and checks.
Patterns
Undoubtedly, one of the most used patterns in the past seasons will also have its prominence in 2019. The patterns come with strength in garments such as 'bomber' jackets, shirts or suits in shades of brown and gray that have been combined with white garments.
The Total Look
Little by little, the styling of a single colour has been gaining strength and the London Fashion Week has confirmed the trend. The 'total look' is combined with another coloured item such as a sweater, shirt or gloves, which breaks monotones in the main getup.
The Stripes
The stripes will be the other style that will dominate next season. The “total look”, with suit jackets or pants with side stripes in different colours are some of the proposals presented by the English designers.
Milan Fashion Week
Milan Fashion Week became the first event of the season with over 60 fashion shows and 3,000 collections with a special space for young talent. After London and Pitti Uomo, Milan retains its calendar dedicated only to men's fashion.
Milan fashion week has welcomed a new edition of men's fashion that has included in the other thirty brands, including large Italian houses such as Versace, Armani or Dolce & Gabbana, who have presented their proposals for men for the autumn season and winter 2018/19.
Bottega Veneta
From the incredible Palazzo Archinto in Milan, Bottega Veneta presents Maier’s new creations. The craftsmanship is in the roots of Bottega Veneta since the days when the company worked leather and handmade handbags. The designer also addressed hand accessories, offering different sized accessories and shapes for personal style. It's difficult to judge the bags moving on the catwalk, but it is clear that Maier took the same attitude with leather goods as with clothes.
The Italian house considers that its universe is based on both genres and therefore, the joint presentation of both collections evidences the systemic progress that accompanies the evolution of the creative vision of Tomas Maier.
Paris Fashion Week
The parades of Paris Fashion Week seem an impossible Macedonian, populated by improbable characters, which changes arbitrarily every season. But in reality, it is a landscape of pioneering brands in changing the proportions and silhouettes of the clothes that we all wear that is building our identity based on key garments evolving every six months. That is, things are really sold because people buy them. The funny thing is, and what you should study, is why so little of all that is seen in our streets resembles what's seen in these fashion shows, and why it takes so long to arrive into mainstream styling.
These are the brands that most stood out with their collections among journalists, publishers, bloggers and other insiders of the fashion industry in Paris.
Dior Homme:
The male brand of the Christian Dior has shown how different moments in time can attract younger generations. The Belgian designer took the garment patterns used to create the bar jacket that so characterized the brand in the mid-twentieth century to make a masculine suit that is retro or vintage nostalgia.
Berluti:
If there is someone good to create a coherent fashion world that gains followers in the world of men's fashion, it is Haider Ackermann, who for his creations for the Berluti brand, adds a sensual, classic mood that is still elegant.
Alexander McQueen:
The brand whose creative director is Sarah Burton has presented for this season a collection inspired by British masculinity, which is more daring than the last. In addition to excellently structured suits, special patterned fabrics were added in tartan, red, black, white and gray squares.
